From Poonam Muthreja:
I am writing to request for your support to mark the day to honour Nirbhaya’s memory.

To remember their beloved daughter who was killed in 2012, and to reaffirm their lifelong commitment to improve women’s safety, Asha and Badri Singh, Nirbhaya’s parents, in collaboration with women’s and citizens groups, are organising a public event on 16th December, 2015. As grieving parents, they are making a strong and heartfelt call for justice for all sufferers of sexual assault . They have lost a daughter, but they want to work tirelessly to ensure that no other parent goes through a similar ordeal in the future.

The venue is Jantar Mantar, and the time, 2.30pm to 4.30pm. Security arrangements are in place. The programme includes tributes to Nirbhaya, short song/ dance/ acting performances by a few well known artistes and pledges of prominent personalities on how/what they will commit  to share in addressing the inadequate safety standards in the country. Please do spare some time to join the event.

For this day, Population Foundation of India (PFI) has produced a film, ‘Nirbhaya – India’s Daughter we shall not forget’ by Feroz Abbas Khan and Pracheta Sharma, which will be released today. Request you to share the film widely on your respective social media pages using the #IPledgeNow in solidarity.

A #LightACandle campaign is also planned for today 16th December to show solidarity. This is being promoted on the MKBKSH Facebook and Twitter pages. You need to tag our twitter handle @MKBKSH_ using the hashtag #LightACandle – every 10 tweets will light a candle on the page.

May I request you to also join the campaign on social media today by sharing/tweeting the film and lighting a candle to support the movement for women’s safety and dignity. We also look forward to your thoughts/response on the film.

Best regards,
Poonam
